Snoring & Sleep Apnea

If you suffer from snoring or sleep apnea you may be a candidate for a custom made sleep appliance.

Mild sleep apnea and snoring can often be cured with lifestyle or heavier modifications such as weight loss, changes in diet, and sleeping habits. However, the most common treatment for obstructive sleep apnea is a CPAP device (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) in which air is pumped into the airway during sleep via a facemask apparatus. The pressure from the CPAP keeps the airways open during sleep, allowing the sufferer to sleep normally.

Only about one-third of sleep apnea sufferers actually get good results from CPAP treatment. The machine is bulky and cumbersome to use. Many patients are annoyed by the noise of the machine, the tubes and the face mask. Some patients just can't tolerate the machine and stop using it.

Regular travel away from home for business or pleasure can also make the CPAP machine a hassle and cumbersome.

For many people who do not tolerate CPAP, an orthotic mouthpiece or appliance similar to a bite guard or mouth guard can be used. Dr. Parker can fit you for a sleep appliance or snore guard in just a couple appointments and you'll be on your way to a more restful sleep! The appliance is designed to position your jaw so that you can have a more normal flow of air through your airway while sleeping. Most patients that have been fit for a sleep appliance or snore guard are amazed at the results.

If you're interested in an alternative to your CPAP machine we may have a solution for you!
